On-device vs cloud

Where transcription and note generation happen.

On-device processing runs speech-to-text and note generation locally on the clinician's device; cloud processing sends audio to a vendor server. As of 2026, virtually every commercial AI scribe uses cloud processing for note generation, because the underlying LLMs are too large for a phone or laptop. On-device transcription with cloud generation is the middle ground some vendors offer.
